Despite the fact that there have been plenty of other significant events taking place throughout the world during the last couple of weeks, it seems like the news media wants to focus all of their attention on the H1N1 flu virus. As the news started to spread that the H1N1 flu virus was believed to be responsible for more than one hundred deaths in Mexico, people started to panic about the virus having the same effect around the world. However, while there is no denying that the swine flu virus is still spreading around the globe, the number of deaths has been significantly less than in Mexico. The strange thing is that while you can look at the facts and see that the deadliness of this flu virus has decreased, people and officials seem just as worried as ever. In spite of the fact that I think this continued worrying is unjustified, countries throughout the world are continuing to respond in a fairly serious manner.
Although I think it is safe to assume that people are going to continue to worry about swine flu for the foreseeable future, I’m not letting it get in the way of my summer plans. I have a trip to London planned for the end of July, and in spite of all the worries that people around the world are having, I will definitely be going there and having a great time. Since I have already taken care of booking my hotel room, Stansted airport car rental and flight, it would take something much more serious than this current swine flu issue for me to cancel my whole trip. Luckily, my trip isn’t for at least another month, so I have my fingers crossed that people will stop worrying about the H1N1 virus and start worrying about the next thing they see on their television sets!
